Amalfi Coast cooking classes with kids

A cooking class can be the highlight of a family trip to the coast, but the age rules vary a lot. Here is which class takes which ages, and what children pay.

The best-known class, the farmhouse cooking class above Amalfi, does not admit children under 8 at all. Families with younger children have good options, though, in Agerola and on the Sorrento peninsula.

The quick answer

Can children under 8 join the Amalfi farmhouse class?

No. Every guest must be over 7 to enter the venue, even if they are not cooking, and every guest pays the class price.

The steep steps and uneven surfaces are part of the reason. Guests aged 8 to 17 book alongside an adult, and Viator lists no youth discount.

Which class is best for young children?

The Agerola farm class: children from age 2 pay a child rate, and the menu of fresh pasta, mozzarella and tiramisu suits young cooks.

It is held on a family farm in Agerola, the mountain village above the coast, with lunch or dinner of the dishes you make. Reach it by SITA bus to Agerola, getting off at Bomerano, about 300 metres from the farm.

What about teenagers?

Teens are welcome at every class here, from age 8 at the Amalfi farm.

One family with children aged 13 and 10 wrote that the pizza class kept everyone engaged, interested and happy the whole time. Note that alcohol is served only to guests 18 and over.

Do children pay less?

At Agerola, the Sorrento farm and Mari's farm, yes; at the Amalfi farm, no.

Viator shows child discounts of about 16% at Agerola, 15% at the Sorrento farm class and close to half price at Mari's farm. Exact child prices appear when you choose your date and add travelers.

How do you keep kids happy during a three-hour class?

Pick a short class with a clear finish: pizza, pasta or tiramisu they can eat at the end.

Give them the garden jobs, let them knead and roll, and bring a hat and water for outdoor time. Small groups, like Mari's farm with up to six guests, give children more to do.

Which class should your family book?

Under 8: Agerola, or a Sorrento-peninsula farm. 8 and over: the Amalfi pizza class, or the farmhouse class for keen cooks.
