Getting to an Amalfi cooking class from Positano or Sorrento

Most visitors to the coast stay in Positano or Sorrento, and the farmhouse class is above Amalfi. Here is how to get there, and when a class closer to your base makes more sense.

The meeting point for the farmhouse class is in front of the GAS Bar on Via Mauro Comite, about 1 km above Amalfi town centre. Getting to Amalfi is the first half of the trip; getting up the hill is the second.

Journey times below are typical. Ferries are seasonal and weather-dependent, and SITA bus timetables change, so check them the day before.

The quick answer

From Positano, take the ferry to Amalfi (about 25 minutes) or the SITA bus (about 40 minutes), then walk about 20 minutes uphill or take a bus or drive to Via Mauro Comite. From Sorrento, allow well over an hour each way; a class on the Sorrento peninsula, or the private class with Sorrento hotel pickup, saves the journey.

How do you get from Positano to the class?

Ferry or SITA bus to Amalfi, then up Via Mauro Comite on foot, by local bus or by car.

The ferry is quicker, at about 25 minutes, and the SITA bus takes about 40 minutes without depending on the ferry season. Leave a buffer: the hosts meet guests 15 minutes before the class.

How do you get from Sorrento?

By SITA bus along the coast road or by seasonal ferry, allowing well over an hour each way.

That makes a four-hour class a full day out. If you would rather not spend the morning travelling, the classes on the Sorrento peninsula start in or near Sorrento.

Sorrento-peninsula farms have sea views of their own.

How do you get from Amalfi town to the meeting point?

Walk up Via Mauro Comite for about 20 minutes, or take a local bus or drive.

The road climbs from Amalfi towards Pogerola. Look for the GAS Bar and the hosts' orange umbrella. There is paid parking at the bar if you drive.

How do you get back after lunch?

The class ends back at the meeting point; walk or ride down to Amalfi, then take the ferry or bus home.

Lunch includes wine and limoncello, so plan not to drive. Check the time of the last ferry before you book an afternoon class.
